I am looking to get feedback on an idea. I am considering starting a Universal Software Repository that would allow publishers to have a single place to submit their projects regardless of the platform(s) targeted. Users would, for example, search for “Facebook” and would receive a single product page with all of the expected features for marketing, screen shots, etc., but also with direct links to downloading/installing platform specific versions of the software. There would be native stores for Android, Windows, Mac and Linux (iOS would be links into the app store from a progressive web app).
The native stores would be privacy-centric and it would be pay-to-play for the publishers, thus eliminating the need to harvest user data.
Let me know what you think.
