I have 8 desktop windows PC’s in my house. A few are personal computers, 2 are home theater PC’s, then there’s a security camera server, a media file server, and a game server for my friends and i, for a game that had its official servers shut down a decade ago. My wife and i also have Surface tablets, and i also keep a personal PC in my office at work. Plus a handful of family and friends that i help out with their computer issues.
None of this is business/commercial related in any way, and i don’t ask for any compensation of any kind to help out my family and friends.
Years ago i used Logmein, but then they went paid only, so i switched to Teamviewer.
But recently Teamviewer has become unusable. First i got a popup that said “commercial use detected”. Not sure what that could possibly mean or what they think they’re “detecting”, but i sent in the “declaration of personal use” document.
A few weeks after that, i started getting the “commercial use detected” message again. But this time there was also another message, saying that my session would be timed out after 5 minutes. However, it actually disconnects me after about 40 seconds, and then makes me wait 15 minutes to connect again, for another 40 seconds…
This has made Teamviewer completely unusable.
So then i went to the Splashtop website, and saw that they are welcoming users fleeing Teamviewer because of their recent practices. Unfortunately, when i try to connect to a PC at my house from another location, or the reverse, it says i need to buy the “anywhere access pack” for a monthly fee to connect to a computer on a different network.
So it seems that Splashtop is unusable too.
What other trusted options exist that could fit my needs?
I’m not going to use regular RDP or VNC, due to the necessary port forwarding and other reasons like RDP logging out the current user, making it impossible for the person on the other end to see what i’m doing.
Chrome remote desktop also seems to be an problem for various reasons.
Basically i need a solution that runs before windows is logged in, so i can log out of windows, and log back in the next time i connect.
Anyone have any ideas about a service that will work for me?
Thanks in advance.
